How to Tell You Have Bed Bugs

Bed bugs feed at night and retreat into seams before morning, so the evidence is easier to find than the insect.

• Bites in a line or cluster on arms, shoulders and legs, noticed on waking rather than felt.
• Dark pinhead spots along mattress piping — digested blood, which smudges when wiped damp.
• Rust-coloured smears on sheets, often near the head of the bed.
• Shed skins and cream-white eggs in headboard joints and frame screw holes.
• A sweetish, musty smell in a closed-up room, pointing to an established population.

They stay within a few feet of where people sleep, so the search starts at mattress piping, headboard and drawer runners, then widens to skirting and switchboard covers. A spotless room can still be infested.

Our Treatment Process

Chemicals alone struggle with bed bug eggs, which are glued into crevices. Steam plus a residual application deals with both the live insects and the next generation.

1. Inspection and marking. The technician works along mattress seams, frame joints and headboards, separating live activity from old evidence so treatment is aimed at the rooms that need it.
2. Steam on soft furnishings. Mattress seams, upholstery, curtains and fabric headboards are steamed. Heat reaches eggs lodged in stitching, which is where re-infestations start.
3. Targeted residual application. Residual product goes into frame joints, slat ends and skirting — the harbourages, not the surfaces you sleep on.
4. Containment guidance. We set out what to launder, what to bag and whether an encasement is worth it, so treated rooms are not re-seeded from untreated bedding.
5. Follow-up at 14 days. Surviving eggs hatch within about two weeks. The second visit catches that generation before it breeds, and is included in the price.

Chemicals We Use

The residual products we apply are registered with the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee (CIB&RC) and used at label-recommended doses. Steam does the work on sleeping surfaces, so residual product stays on frames, joints and skirting.

Service Warranty

Bed bug treatment carries a 6-month service warranty, and the 14-day follow-up is part of the standard treatment. If activity returns within that period we re-treat at no additional charge. Where a shared building is the source we will say so, because treating one room repeatedly will not settle it.

How to Prepare Before the Visit

• Strip all bedding, wash it at 60°C or above, and keep it bagged until the treatment is done.
• Do not move mattresses to another room — that is how an infestation spreads through a flat.
• Clear under-bed storage and suitcases from the room.
• Empty bedside drawers and clear the headboard.
• Vacuum the bed area and dispose of the bag outside straight away.
• Keep children and pets out of treated rooms during the visit and for 2-3 hours after.

After-Treatment Care

• Leave the beds in place for 48 hours. Moving furniture back early drags product out of the joints.
• Do not wash down frame joints or skirting for at least a week.
• Expect the odd bite for a week or so. Disturbed bed bugs move before the residual reaches them.
• Keep mattress encasements zipped for a full year — anything sealed inside starves.
• Tell us if bites continue past three weeks, once the follow-up has had time to work.
